figuration — a short film I directed for a 7-day competition, currently streaming on Labocine. This is a passion project born from my experience as a laboratory scientist, my interest in epidemiology, and how those intersect with visual storytelling.
About
Hi. I like making stuff. I'm pretty open to whatever type of video project, as long as it's interesting, and maybe a little challenging. Here are 10 random facts about me.
- Yes, I genuinely like spreadsheets.
- I like to cook and have a fledgling food content instagram @macha.cooks.
- If I haven't told you I'm from Oakland, I will like 3 times at some point today. Yes, I have full bicoastal capabilities (for the Bay Area and New York, obviously).
- I have directed several short films, and have found I love Black Mirror style Sci-Fi — I have a past career in microbiology and genetics.
- Coffee & Cigarettes (Jim Jarmusch) taught me that filmmaking can be whatever you want it to be… I’m also a professor of film studies.
- I can produce the heck out of your project by staying in my lane, or heavily collaborating. Your call.
- I'm currently long-term producing a documentary about an aspect of the end of the war in Afghanistan. I'm the only non-military on the team.
- I know a lot of really talented people — both union and non-union — and how to find them.
- I love beagles and chihuahuas. Especially cheagles. RIP Cesar.
- Dream job: exploring food, culture, art, environment, and their intersections with wealth and power (or: producer dream — regular hours and regular pay, lol).
